Last Year Reflection

This freshman year has been really crazy I have learned a lot about Drama and writing in general. I remember when I first came to ASTI and I was so excited for English because we weren’t learning about Shakespeare. We also started learning about debates and it was all good. And then we started. We started it on blogger, and I was juiced. I had never seen a blog or at the least made one.  My first blog experience in all I think was OK. Personally I don’t’ like blogs, because I don’t like typing what I can say. I’m a voice person and I in blogs the emotion and personality I bring to my voice I cannot bring to my writing. Plus I have to type what I can say in like 2 minutes I think it is an extremely boring waste of time.
But to say the lease my first couple of blogs was okay I guess. This is a direct quote from my first reflexive Essay

”During my first Quarter of writing my blog posts received responses affected how I look at things in general. Over a course of one Quarter I've written seventeen blog posts. Some blog posts have been very controversial others which have been boring, others very lazily written, and some which just make me angry to see the response posts. My first blog posts where just assignments, but as I progressed I seemed to be starting very controversial debates a lot of which were on the topic of race. After a couple of those debates, I slowed down on my writing and just put boring stuff on blogger I knew people wouldn't read.”

I feel the same now as I did before. I looked at blogger statistics and my most controversial posts were the most interesting posts. This includes Swagga style Part 1 and Part 2, and is the N-WORD okay! I personally liked these views. I still believe that no matter what people say my writing is still the bomb. But the big issue I started having with my blog is that; I got tired of the stupid comments people wrote. I feel like writing is not my best subject so when I put something up on blog just to put there doesn’t mean you go ahead and write really rude comments. Now if we were talking about this in person them Hey I could go ahead and reply all I want in the meanest ways. But unfortunately I can’t put that emotion in my writing. If you haven’t noticed already my writing is not the best. I strongly dislike Google docs so I don’t’ really like writing on there. I’ve realized that when I don’t’ go ahead and edit my work it sounds really choppy. Like when I said:

“Maybe it’s because I'm black but do inter racial fashions annoy you? Sometimes I say this because ever since the sagging pants era started in person other than a black that was saggin hid pants, always had some negative comment coming from them, But when Black guys start dressing like white guys with skinny jeans and skate boards no one says anything. WHY IS THAT?”

I don’t can’t tell how many errors I see right here. I feel like if I would have edited and re-written my words, it wouldn’t’ have sounded so bad. So once again If I could say them instead of type them things would have been better. But unfortunately I can’t do that.

After My whole big explosion on blogger over some stupid pointless blog posts I stopped writing comments like that. Instead I‘ve been doing a lot of boring basic writing, doing it just to get the homework done kind of blog posts. I looked at my blog posts and at then end of my blog posts that I wrote in the first semester like a dummy I continuously wrote “Please give me your feedback”. What the H*** was I thinking. Why would I ask for peoples comments?  When deep down I don’t’ really even care what they thought. I think that maybe I just wanted to get the quick word limit down or I just wanted to have an ending but now that I know I’m never putting that ever again.

Also I feel like blogger is a place for people to go ahead and say their feelings with ought doing it in person. There was like no emotion going on at all, I saw a lot of blogs were people who never otherwise would have the guts to say something to your face used blogger at their release plate to go off on you. But that’s not me I do not argue over the internet I do it in person, so I didn’t like that aspect of it.

My favorite Posts by far are Oakland is Hella bomb! And Police Officers. The majority of my grammar and spelling in my posts are really bad. But I don’t know what it was but I had some pretty good grammar. I have to say that I absolutely love my posts. I felt really bad about the Police one though because later I found out that Melissa Ma’s dad was a police and I felt sad that I trashed talked police. Honestly I hope I didn’t hurt her feelings because she is such a nice girl but if I did I apologize Melissa Ma (and that should mean a lot because I don’t apologize very often.)

So now I’m coming to the end of my writing and the thing is I only have one more posts left on blog this one and I only have this one to talk about in my last writing.  Oakland is Hella Bomb! That was my favorite posts. I got so many reply’s to that one because I trashed talked Alameda but who’s gives a f*** I had so many Oakland people back me up on that one. I felt so proud when I wrote that posts. I didn’t see not one grammar issues (maybe there is one but still I ain’t seen it). So to end off English Ciao! and writing blogs has been a new expierence.

Final Post

Harlem on Lock
  1. Pick a character that interested you and write about them in depth. You can also analyze a relationship between two different characters.
Harlem on Lock is a fictional book written by Karen Williams. The name Harlem on Lock explains the book perfectly; Harlem is the name of the main character. This book portrays Harlem struggles and finding the perfect dad and man to love her. She does this while going from the projects to a beautiful upscale life after the death of her heroin addicted mother and her heroin addicted father who raped her. A drug dealer name chief saves her but then makes her his sex prisoner basically, and throughout the book Harlem has to try and leave while getting her real man back , and still finding out about her two fathers. Pick a character that interested you and write about them in depth. You can also analyze a relationship between two different characters. Obliviously now by reading I'm going to talk about the main Character Harlem and her four different male relationships. I'm going to compare:
- Stuckey (Real father) vs. Uncle Earl (fake father for eighteen years)
- Savior (Neighborhood Crush) vs. Chief (Abusive drug dealer)
Savior is the man who grew up next to Harlem in the LA project he, one day after he realizes that Harlem didn’t have a Christmas she ends up going shopping with her neighborhood crush Savior who's a couple years older than her. Then savior takes her to a swap me and said to her "I'm getting out out of here real son. Maybe somewhere like Colorado. Build a life out there. How bout it, Harlem? Would you leave with me?" then she says yes (Page-39). The relationship between theses two characters is on and off but basically it’s much better than her and chief.
When Harlem gets home one day her dad hits and her and someone jumps her dad which then causes her mom to take them to the hospital so then Harlem has to do a stripper job but then savior comes and saves her from that too. Then Aja the mom dies of a drug overdose than her dad to make money takes her virginity so she can start prostituting out of her house. This time around Savior can't save Harlem because he got arrested but she doesn’t know that so. The prostituting leads to chief the head drug roller taking care of Harlem for a whole year but that comes with a price, of being his girl but that comes with pain.
Chief is a horrible drug dealer that at first teaches Harlem that you can still be fine and rich. He takes her in after raping. But then after a while of chief being nice he loses it and starts to make crazy sex tapes, raping her in front of friends, and even once at her birthday party she didn’t want to sleep with chiefs friend so he drown her in the pool in front of everybody. Who was this hero to save her Savior was.
The difference between Savior and Chief when it comes to Harlem is that Chief is the real hero he doesn’t beat Harlem in to making her do things. Chief has a serious control problem and when the major drug dealer that was before him goes to jail for 20 years and comes out he even tries to put Harlem in harm’s way. The way he treats her is not like her man, but after being brought up in the projects and never having anything when she met chief all of that changed for good. She was blinded by all the shopping he could do for her, she couldn’t look past that. But the thing is Savior could have got her all of that. But when he’s arrested and know one know what happened Harlem begins to think that Savior is like her parents, bad people that leave her every time the tough gets going, and then he comes out of jail and he saves her again and again and again, like a true savior.
Now Harlem has her dad Earl who raped her as a teenager and her real dad stuckey a major drug dealer who she doesn’t find out about until later on when she is trying to overcome chief. As a child Earl was very mean to her no matter the grades no matter what she did he wasn’t satisfied. Once when Harlem was little she moved earls hand from his face so he wasn’t mad and he said “You ever touch me again ill slap you silly”, and ever since then Harlem knew that her and earl would never have that father daughter relationship. Harlem met Stuckey when he was just getting out of jail and he came to visit chief, he demanded that chief give back the land of drug property that was his territory to sell. But he didn’t.
When Earl rapped Harlem she didn’t like him in the end when he went to rehab did a good job got left and then went to the hospital and was in a comma, Harlem went to go speak to him. Earl had asked about her and wanted to go see her badly. When she finally went she said her words and a couple days later when he died Harlem felt OK she wasn’t stressed or anything, but she wasn’t sad for his death. This shows that she can get over a dramatic event and move on and live her life to the fullest with savior by her side.
When Stuckey died in the shootout with Chief she was sad, she honestly loved him as a father even though the lifespan of time spent with Harlem between Earl and Stuckey is the same Stuckey had as much lasting effect. Stuckey offered Harlem a chance to give him a second chance and really raise him, but it didn’t happen and she was sad that she said No. That was one of her only things that she regretted doing.
So to analyze all four of Harlem’s relationship I can say even though she may start off bad, she ends of in a good note.

Halrlem On Lock :Blog Posts Two

8. Pick a character that interested you and write about them in depth. You can also analyze a relationship between two different characters.

If you read my last blog posts  I basically gave summary of what the book was about, and while reading my comments I realized that I had forgot to talk about the question I would be answering while writing my essay in two weeks so here's the question AGAIN:

Pick a character that interested you and write about them in depth. You can also analyze a relationship between two different characters.

Obliviously now by reading I'm going to talk about the main Character Harlem and her four different male relationships. I'm going to compare:

- Stuckey (Real father) vs. Uncle Earl (fake father for eighteen years)
- Savior (Neighborhood Crush) vs. Chief (Abusive drug dealer)

In order for you the reader to Understand what I'm talking about You have to understand the rest of the story. So last time I left out on the part where Savor had just come back into Harlem's life. By this time chief was annoying the f*** out of Harlem with everything he did to her, the constant horrifying sex, the beating, and especially the lock down.

But when savior comes back into the picture he fumed at the fact that Harlem is with Chief the only real problem is that Savior doesn't know or realize that Harlem isn't still with chief because she wants to but because she is shit out of luck. But soon later on after chief goes on one of his crazy rampages with Harlem she sends Harlem out on a dangerous drug mission with Savior. But when Savior finally talks to Harlem about whats going on in her life she finally realizes the truth and that makes him fall for her even more.

They then start to re-kindle what the had before in the lovely Las Vegas, but have to keep it a secret; and at the end of there drug trip Savior offers her the chance to run away from her but it she chooses not to go because of what Chief will do to Savior. But later on on Harlem's first Birthday Chief drowns her in front of everyone at her party, which really causes makes Harlem believe it's time to leave chief and that's exactly what she did.

But when she leaves she meets her real father then he dies in a gun down and she ends up killing chief and like many stories she lives happily ever after.

Harlem On Lock

So the book I decided to read for Mr.Sutherland's English class this time around was Harlem on Lock by Karen Williams. This book is extremely interesting and I suggest to people who enjoy bold about Black characters going through a struggle and rising up go ahead and read this.

In this book the main characters name is Harlem even though she was born in Harlem she lived in California since she was born. Before she was born he father and mother moved out to California so that they can get away from there heroin addiction, but even back in the projects of L.A they still found heroin. In order for Aja Harlem's mother to upkeep there drug addiction she has to prostitute herself but she becomes very ugly so no man really wants to by her out so then she ask Harlem to perform sexual favors to the landlord for heroin and she does but after that shes still a virgin so she didn't have to have sex with.

Harlem Becuase if her parents addiction doesn't have nice clothes shoes or anything and with that when Christmas rolls around she has no one to spend it with and she doesn't get any presents from anybody so it's like really bad. Then she ends up going shopping with her neighborhood crush Savior who's a couple years older than her. Then savior takes her to a swap me and said to her
"I'm getting out out of here real son. Maybe somewhere like Colorado. Build a life out there. How bout it, Harlem? Would you leave with me?" then she says yes (Page-39).
When Harlem gets home her dad hits and her and someone jumps her dad which then causes her mom to take them to the hospital so then Harlem has to do a stripper job but then savior comes and saves her from that too. Then Aja the mom dies of a drug overdose than her dad to make money takes her virginity so she can start prostituting out of her house. This time around Savior can't save Harlem becuase he got arrested but she doesnt know that so. The prostituting leads to chief the head drug roller taking care of Harlem for a whole year but that comes with a price, of being his girl but hat comes with pain. After some years of pain and betrayal Savior is released from jail and is back in Harlems life as Chiefs main soldier.

Vignette Project Review

It's weird in most people Vignettes project at some point they talked about there family. Most people either talked about injuries, emotions, past expirences, hair, and the oh-so common topic of family. Most people when they talk about family they talk about how close they are to there family,ot what there fmaily personally means to them. I didn't see alot of vignettes where there were certain people picked out from others; when looking for some commmon topics to talk about I saw the words Dad in several languages. There was the Tatuszu Kasia's pronuctiation in polish, Papi Christians Dad in Spanish, and Ldazhe in the once again oh-so common language of english; just Dad.

When reading Kasia's vignette she talks about who her father is in my opinion and what he means to her

My Dad, my tatuszu, he’s so conservative. Born and raised in Polish communism in the 60’s, refugee status in the late 80’s- he can’t help himself sometimes, you know. (Kasia)

Now looking at Christian's vignette he uses the words Papi to describe his father instead of saying Dad or Daddy, and when he uses these words to describes this type of  special experience he had with his father.

Come on Cristian, hurry, there’s a neat little smell over by that tree.
PAPI! HOLD ON! (Christian)

See when Ldazhe talks about her father unlike Christian or Kasia she doesn't use a special word to describe her father or a special relationship with her father; it's like becuase she doesn't have this positive realtionship she has no special word; maybe it is becuase she doesn't call her father anything but dad, but it was still kinda crazy.
I knew my dad like I knew the dark scared me. Yet I never knew my dad would become what I was afraid of....I didn’t recognize my dad and his ferocious face, red and swelling. (Ldazhe)

And instead of saying poring oh "Dad" she adds in this "Tatuszu" I'm not even sure if in Polish Tatuszu means father but it's a ncie descritive word to say father; after I get this point of Tatuszu and a fighter based on Kasia's words I think that Kasia is proud of her father.

I think that Sandra Cisneros book The House on Mango Street is her dedication, or going back to her old House on Mango street. She writes in the last Vignette of her book Throughout the book this character Esperanza travels a lot and lives in many houses, well not in the book. But before Esperanza comes to the house on Mango street; she hoped that when she came to that house it would be her house. Esperanza imagined the House on Mango street being that grand house; but it wasn’t.

Throughout the book she goes through A bunch of stuff that really carves out who Esperanza is, she has her first kiss, she learns about boys, she gains her friends, and most of all she realizes who she is as a person and what she wants to do in life. Esperanza does not like Mango street, and nothing that it brings with it.

So when she’s leaving in the last Vignette she said her own little goodbye to Mango Street .First she went to a fortune teller to try and fight what her future brings and she asked the fortune teller one thing Will I leave mango street? and when she asked this question she said it in her head, not out loud and the response to her question or the fortune tellers message was "when you leave you must remember to come back for the others" (page 105). That’s when Esperanza had her upbringing that she had to come back to Mango street.

“They will not know I have gone away to Come back. For the ones I left behind. For the ones who cannot out” (page 110). I think that Sandra cisneros book the House on Mango street is her coming back to mango, this is her dedication letter to mango. When you really think about it there both from Chicago, in the beginning Esperanza said she wishes she had a different name; maybe she changed it to Sandra Cisneros, and on top of that there’s this constant quote between writers, write what you know; Sandra Cisneros Knows House on Mango street. This is her coming back to the girls or people who couldn’t go to Mango.Sandra Cisneros is Esperanza.

Table of Contents
1.       I love my Name!
2.      The Bird’s Nest
3.      Escalators, and Casinos
4.      Squirrel
5.      Nikes

I love my name!

My name is gorgeous I just think that it’s amazing, I don’t mean to sound cocky but my middle name could be the name of like a restaurant “Hi, welcome to Neyyerah’s”. My name in Arabic Ale’ah means Peace, Joy, and Hope. I think that I live up to two of those standards I think that I have a lot of Hope, and I strive for things, and I think that I’m Joyful; I guess.

But I know I’m not Peaceful, I’m very violent like the time when I went off on my math teacher, like a lion pouncing on his prey, or the time I scratched my boyfriends face on accident, and he got a scar like Scar from The Lion King, for like the rest of the year he had this deep cut, it was thick enough to hold a penny, after that I tried stop being violent and being peaceful; but I guess I’m not the most peaceful person. That’s right my name Go!, and everybody is going to know who Ale’ah Neyyerah Bashir-Baaqee is.

Squirrel

I look like a squirrel, and I know it. So I don’t really care when people call me a squirrel because I ‘m very used to being called Squirrel. When I was little I used to play with fire, I liked playing with fire like dogs like playing with bones, I was attached, once I was in the bathroom trying to warm up some water in a plastic bottle, and I was holding the bottle with a napkin, and the napkin caught on fire and I made a big mess, and when my grandma found out she was so appalled.
All the times that there was a fire lit I would come and blow it out. It was me but my grandma thought that it was her adoptive son Herald. Ever since than my grandma called me a squirrel and a fire Bug. Last year I went to a new school, and the first nickname I got was squirrel, at first I didn’t understand why I was being called squirrel, and I didn’t like it but I got used to it.
Purple were calling me Squirrel cuase’ I look like a squirrel
In the last month of school me and all my friends Nokono, crazy Zaleigha, and  Aziza were all sitting in class when my new math teacher was teaching; and she heard some dogs bark; and then she started this story about the movie Up, then she said in the movie Up the dogs yell squirrel! And every looked at me  when she said Squirrel! Everyone in the class laughed and so did I and ever since then I don’t mind if people call me Squirrel!

Escalators and Casinos

The sky walks quicker, that is what the old bearded man said to my grandma, sister, and I when we standing at light for over 2 minutes.
How we get to the sky-walk, my grandma said.
The bearded man replied go up those stairs, he pointed, then through the upstairs sushi bar and casino and down the escalators then you will be in the Atlantis hotel.
‘Nyah, Leah hurry up we have to go if we want to be awake to go skiing.  So that's what we did we rushed upstairs with our four bags of stuffed animals straight from Circus Circus in the great city of Reno, Nevada.
Therefore, we went up the cold concrete stairs that smelled of rotten urine, through the cigarette-covered alcohol smelling sushi and right around the bright pink and green upstairs Mini-Casino.
Then we saw it.  What looked like an ordinary transportation device wasn’t a simple transportation device.  It was full of death, pain, and screams, and anything else you could think of that is bad.
Then, we went down and everything was normal, until it snuck out and grabbed me.  It was so quick I could not believe it. It grabbed me and it held me and it wouldn’t let me go; I stayed up there and I couldn’t get down.  But the Escalator of death was trying to bring me down but the nail had me, it had my shoelace more specifically it had my ankle; and I was stuck
But that’s when Everyone on the escalator flew. They flew to my rescue people I had never even seen came to my rescue and then we all flew. That thing, that nail had no choose but to let me go, and give my ankle back. Yeah I learned and lived that day; I learned that when we are in need no matter what people size, shape height, color, anything: it doesn’t matter people will always help you.

The Birds Nest

That is what they called it and that is what it looked like, a birds nest.  I’d seen one before in a tree at my home, with little hummingbirds flying in and out of it every year; but this one was different. It was big silver bright, glowing. Anything you can imagine that is what it was.
Most of all it was amazing.  Spectacular even. I wanted to be in the birds nest. But only the best of the best could have ran track in the Birds Nest stadium in Beijing, China. Only the rich could buy a ticket to see these track runners perform, and only the lucky like me could see it. But when I saw it it was amazing. But then again I was in the amazing city of Beijing, China; and I was there to dance.
That’s right dance in  the Chinese festival of international dance  I was, invited me and my dance company of the African Queens to perform. The only African dance troupe there. And me I was there living the life, walking the great wall, dancing in amusement parks, living in five star hotels. Opening pearls, and looking at Jade. Oh and don’t forget shopping at one of the biggest malls in the world. That is right; and walking the forbidden city; that’s right I lived and learned life is short so do it right and do it big.

Shoes

I love shoes, and shoes love me. I have a bunch of shoes Nike's, Jordan's, Air-Nike's, Boots, flats, Uggs, converse, and anything else. My favorite shoes are tennis shoes I can rock with anything else. I love matching I’m always matching so I need enough shoes that I can rock with anything else. My shoes are like my veins, I need my shoes with ought them I'm dead.
My shoes are my world.

In the book house on mango street there are a lot of symbols using the same words to describe these symbols. Certain words come up more than others such as Falling, Trees, Red/Pink, Blue, Yellow, Rats/Mice, Clouds/Sky, and Kisses/Lips. In this particular blog posts I'm going to focus on the symbolism Cisneros shows with her Kisses/Lips.

We know so far that Cisneros main character is very Insecure about herself especially sexually. Early on the book a bunch of boys get moved into the neighborhood, and that’s somewhat when Esperanza kinda gets confused about where she stands with boys. The weird thing is in the beginning I understand why she’s afraid of kissing because she’s a little girl.

But later on in the book even though Cisneros doesn’t make it completely clear I’m pretty sure that Esperanza is fifteen when this specific Incident happens:

“ Your son and his friends took sally keys, and now they wont give them back unless she kisses them...What do you want me to do, she said call the cops?”

Right before this quote Esperanza went jetting down the street from the monkey garden to go tell Tito’s mom (Tito is the boy forcing sally to kiss him), and when she went back to the monkey garden she tried to get Tito and the boys not kiss sally by using a brick but they all looked at her like she was crazy; and she left embarrassed and by this time I’m pretty sure she had to be fifteen.

But it’s ironic that before that she was dreaming of kissing Sire “Sire. How did you hold her? Was it?  Like this? And when you kissed her? Like this?” Before this quote Esperanza the narrator talks about how when she started living on Mango street a gut named Sire would stare at her, and talk about her admirably. So later on she has a dream of Sire kissing her and admiring her even more.

In the last quote “he grabs my face with both hands and kisses me hard on the mouth and doesn’t let go.” In this quote Esperanza just got her first job and a old man continuously kissed her. Esperanza already has this really bad experience with men and kissing, and not it’s just made worse.

In the book House on Mango Street the author Sandra Cisneros writes this book in the case of Vignette’s. Vignette’s are like short story’s empasizing a certain point. In the Vignette’s My Name, No Speak English, Sally, and Raphael Who Drinks Papaya Juice on Tuesday all have something to do with Windows and the symbolic presence they represent in Esperanza (The main characters) life.

In the Vignette My Name the quote "She looked out the window" (pg.11) is representing that Esperanza “She” is the one looking out the window. In a lot of stories the representations of women sitting in the window is usually women looking for a way out. It’s kinda sad that women post up a chair by the window and hope for more. It’s kinda like when women are looking out of windows there dreaming but what there dreaming off is never going to come.

In No Speak English, they represent this by the quote "She sits all day by the window, and plays all the radio shows"(pg.77). Women who have lost their way or are confused, hurt, betrayed, etc. Sit by windows There somewhat of a looking glass of what there life could have been; if blah blah hadn’t happened to them.

Women who sit by the window really look at people and observe other’s lives and comment on every single thing that’s going. Either it is like they will sit by the window depressed/sad or over nosey. Raphael who drinks Papaya juice on Tuesday “And then Raphaela who is still young but is getting old from leaning out the window too much”, (pg 79). See a little bit after this quote the narrator (Esperanza) says how the Raphael locked Raphaela in her room because she was so pretty. Was does this do to a females’ self esteem-it makes her want to sit by the window.

For example Sally “and if you open the little window latch and Gage it a shove the window would swing open and all the sky would come in”, (pg.82). This is kinda like a metaphor that can help Esperanza’s self confidence if you open up the window’s and experience the world then you can better live.

“The Color Purple” is an epistolary novel written by Alice Walker. “The Color Purple” takes place in the early 1900’s, based on an African-American women’s reflection of the main character’s life -- Celie. When Celie was younger she had a very close relationship with her younger sister Nettie. She felt that she had to protect Nettie from trouble. Celie, in the earlier part of her life has a really bad relationship, with men, and it lead on to later on trouble with men and eventually strength. Nettie however is taken away from Celie by Celie’s force upon husband Mr.____, separating the two for their whole lives and Causing Celie to go in a whirlwind of feeling, including anger and depression. Later she meets Nettie again after being comforted by letters Nettie sent to her, unfortunately but she doesn't find them until she’s an adult.  So, even though Celie and Nettie were raised in the same house their lives where completely different, including the trouble they went though; and I personally think Nettie handled her trouble much better.

When Alice Walker first started writing the Color Purple Celie’s character was dependent on two beings -- God and Nettie. “With God help” (page 3), here is a quote where Celie depends on god, and she’s basically asking for god’s help. But later on in the book she questions God, even though not long before she was talking about how she couldn't live without God and Nettie, to show her the way.  She state’s “What God do for me?” (Page 193). She begins to really look at her relationship with God, versus her relationship she had with god earlier in her life, whereas Nettie throughout the book Nettie always has a good relationship with God, Celie continues to pray to God that Nettie is not dead and that she will write; and when Celie finds out that Nettie has been writing she no longer needs God in her life.

Out of Celie and Nettie, Nettie has always been able to stand up for what she thinks is right and that includes gender inequality. Celie doesn’t actually support gender inequality but later on she tells a male character to beat another female character that was her friend. By suggesting to actually giving a beating to that friend, she’s saying it is alright for men to hit women. Her excuse while this is going on is that she wishes she could fight. Celie is more of the pushover, whereas Nettie stood up. In the beginning Nettie comes over to live with Celie and her husband, and Nettie and Celie have a conversation where Nettie explains to Celie she needs to take charge. “Don’t let them run over you” (page 18), Celie has never ever fought, so when she’s told to for her safety she still doesn’t.  Celie throughout this conversation between the two he keeps mentioning how she can’t fight back, even though Nettie keeps telling that it is very crucial to fight back. Later on in the story Harpo (Celie’s son in law) is having a conversation with Celie about how to control Sophia (Harpo’s wife). Celie’s suggestion is to “beat her”. Celie is just letting men take the upper hand and control women. She’s just letting the bridge of gender inequality get wider, and wider.

Nettie and Celie both have major relationship differences. All of Nettie’s relationships with others start off semi-good, (at least the few observed) but end up not so good. For example her relationship with Mr.____ and Corrine start out on a good note (somewhat) , but end not so well.  She’s later kicked out of Mr.___’s house because of a big fight. Yes, it was right to have the fight and not give in to Mr.___. But never the less in the end it still ended up bad blood between the two. The same for Corrine her and Corrine were best friends almost like mother and daughter, but towards the end of Corrine’s life her and Nettie get in an argument. In the beginning of the book Mr.____ and Celie had a horrible relationship between the two even though they were married. “Mr.____ is the only one understanding my feeling”, (page 263). The only person before who actually understood Celie in the beginning was Nettie, now Celie and Mr.___ are suddenly friends. It’s like that with Celie and Pa, Sophia, Shug, Harpo, and obviously Mr.____.

So looking at the original point Celie’s and Nettie’s outcome in life solely depended on how they wanted to live their life, and the fight they did to achieve what they did; even though Nettie's Journey towards a happy life was much more pleasant and simple compared to Celie’s life. I would like to think that Alice Walker’s point of this story is to show how hard women had it, and how even women of that day and time; found ways to be independent and overcome the chains men put on women. I think this book is Walker’s letter to women, to overcome and grow and don’t be put down any longer.

Rebuttal: Facebook

Im going to rebuttal Saber Saleh.

So I just read Saber's blog posts on Facebook; and were both in agreement that facebook is useful. The difference between my debate and his, was his was ALL opinion and personal experiences using facebook. I can admit that i also used a past experience that i put in my debate. But that was my last point not the first. I used a quote like the one below, to prove that fact that facebook is useful. I think that if we were looking at debates and Saber was chosen to write a debate-no offense we would lose that debate so quick its "crazy".

It's getting to the point where you're at a disadvantage if you don't have a Facebook account; you can use it to log in with the same username and password on more than two million sites — it's not just for checking in on your cousin's newest baby pictures. So, here's the trick: You can go nearly invisible on Facebook — nobody will be able to view your photographs, see your activity or where you've checked in except for existing friends — but still have an account to use around the web.
On top of the fact of that he didn't have a lot of information to back up his point, he didn't write his debate with the best grammar. That's not be offensive but when key words to a debate are left it is so confusing it's hard to really understand where he's going with his point. I think that if he would read it a lot of times before posting it he might have really understood and got what it said. it was very very confusing.

In conclusion, i think facebook help people out. Also about five minutes ago I haven't this girl in a couple of years and i didn't notice her and she said duhh you no me remember in the 7th grade i said yea i just didn't see your face. It brings back fun memories, sometimes it brings back memories you don't want to think about anymore.I think facebook is very helpful because it helps you in many different way and it keeps the happiness going up like all the games and if your bored talk to a friend thats why i think facebook !!!!!!!ROCKSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
If Saber had of stopped using his opinion and cleared up the story and then edited it and put some quotes i     think it could have been better.

Color Purple: Blog

So we have to right about the Color Purple and what we think about Celie and her relationship with god.

Question: What is Celie's relationship with god?

Answer: Celie is very close with god. Like other people she depends on god to be her reason why; for instance somethings that people do is when they want a job religious people instead of going to get an "job application, they say god can you get me a job". They depend on god to get that job. Celie in my opinion depends on God to get her out of the "Situation" (marriage with Mr._____). She's been beaten , raped, and even more. She is one the one who lost her baby sister (by Mr____) that really is the only person who loved her. She's lost her children. I think she depends on God to save every thing that has gone wrong in her life. She depends on God to save the sister that might be dead; and if she (Nettie "Celie's sister") is she (Celie) hopes that God will protect her.

Answer Two: I also think that Celie believes (like allot of religious) people that god and heaven is there way out of this horrible world. Celie probably feels like if she does everything a "wife" is supposed to do. She cooks. cleans, and does every thing. In my opinion Celie probably has this feeling that if I do right by everyone single person (Shug Avery, Mr____, Papa, Harpo, and Sophia) in this world in this world than God will do right by her in the next world.

I think that a major way Celie can change this is too defend herself she continuously lets people run over her. Nettie backed her up and the few people in this book (later on) who do back her up end up leaving and she has to then defend herself. Later on in the book I know she does defend herself; but right now shes acting like a punk. It's not going to hurt her to actually fight back or not " I don't know how", that's what Celies's response to Sophia telling her to fight was.

Debate Opening Statement: Facebook

I believe that Online Social networks are not harmful to society.Geography is one of the largest differences between people, beside appearances. Facebook allows us to connect with people. The Pro to this topic would be "but you can get stalked on Facebook" or "Facebook can be hacked and all your personal information can be revealed".

My response then change your password every month, or don't put your f****** personal information on there just the basics.

I don't think that people realize that we use stupid differences to divide ourselves as a people, I think that I've found out the similarities between others and I on Facebook, then on a regular day to day basis at my own school. And through Facebook I've realized that it is a very very small world, I love Facebook.

The founders of Facebook, do realize that there are risks to being on facebook; but they have come up with ways to secure facebook. For example:"every couple moths every user has to go through a facebook check, and create new password and information" (to block hacking). I think Facebook if used by the right people for the right people can be very beneficial.

The new feature, announced Thursday, makes Facebook a bit more like an online banking site. Users can identify certain "approved" computers and mobile phones that are allowed to access their Facebook accounts. If an unauthorized device tries to log in, the user will be notified of that activity by e-mail or text message, allowing them, in theory, to shut down an attack before any information is stolen.

I remember when I was in the seventh grade and I had some friends who I couldn't get in contact with (New Phone Number, and didn't check old email). but when I found them on Facebook by typing in there name(simple). I got to reconnect with them, I've connected with 3rd cousins that I haven't seen in forever. Yes to some Facebook might be addicting, but because some people don't know how to properly use Facebook we should shut down the whole site. NO.

Right now were writing about Peace and how to obtain this, my thesis is when you let go of little differences that divide us and start to bond, then we can obtain peace.  Facebook has to do something like this, when we can globally or districtly come together as a community we can help better ourselves. Think about it; No War.

Ivy vs. Non Ivy

So all throughout the week in class we have been talking about selective schools (ivy league) vs. non-selective (regular 4 year school). The main question is Will you have a better life if you graduate from an elite college or university? Why/why not? My personal opinion is that you'll have a higher chance of making more money and graduating at a ivy league.

I dont' know if I'm the only one but I would love to attend and Ivy league and the funny thing is in this seven way debate a man named Luis Fuentes-Rohwer, Inspired me too attend a Ivy league (making him the most persuasive debater in this debate) even though I already knew I would.

The second issue is related to the first concern. To the extent that race is a proxy for merit and that being a racial minority remains, notwithstanding the tremendous progress we have made as a country, a disadvantage, college prestige might be more valuable for minority students than it is for white students. To take but one example, employers who have misgivings about a minority applicant's merit because of the applicant’s race might be more willing to take a chance because the applicant graduated from an elite school. This is another way of saying that minority applicants should think long and hard before turning down admission to elite institutions.
So to Paraphrase Rohwer's work, he's saying that if there are two people both female and both African-American the employer is going to most likely choose the applicant of color who went to an ivy league versus  a non ivy league. So those of you all who still don't agree about the Ivy league if you were a mob gangster and you needed a hit man would you rather have a ten year convict at Alcatraz or a ten year convict in a state jail. You would obviously want the convict from Alcatraz because Alcatraz has a history of being home to the worst criminals in America.

My least favorite debate that didn't persuade me was Kevin Carey.

If you're among the small handful of students who have stellar SAT scores and parents with several hundred thousand dollars to spend, you should seriously consider going to an elite college or university.  They're nice places to hang out for four years and you'll probably learn a few things. Even if you don't, you'll still get a piece of paper signifying that you were smart enough to get in and rich enough to pay for it. People care about stuff like that.
As you guys can see this dude makes me so not want to go to Ivy league but I still am this dudes just dumb so, I hope my readers like the argument.

!Get Over IT!

This week for the first time in a while I'm responding to Rhocksor because I think Teenage girls need to GET OVER IT!

So another thing that annoys me that I didn't put on my last blog is the fact that teenage females attach themselves or claim a Boyfriend. Like what the Hell? Who the hell are you to claim a boy that you ain't married to. These dudes have no obligation to you. So they can do what they want, your not there wife, mother, or grandmother.
They were over within a few days. They were stronger than ever and then, they broke up. It literally killed her inside. She hid her feelings and walked around like she didn't give a care in the world. A lot of guys still tried getting at her but she turned them down. She loved this guy because he was her first and to let him go just a few days after they got back together really bugged her.

She was the toughest girl you would ever meet but she cried for hours on the phone when we were talking. I remeber exactly what she said:
No offense but if she was the toughest girl she wold have stopped crying and move. I real problem with so called "love" is that people always think there inlove. I honestly doubt that a little kid can be in love. In my opinion love works two ways. So if you feel the love so do they. Females attach themselves to every guy that they go out with. But they need to realize that "you can not attach yourselves to every guy that says he looves you becuase at the end of the day you'll probably have at least fifteen attach ments."

So the advice I have to the lonely girls out there get over the ex. Please beacuase your only hurting yourself becuase they honestly doesn't care. Its like female's hearts are thin peices of glass getting ready tp break at any moment. And I dont buy those exuses where females say you should stay with me forever becuase I gave you my virginity. Like if it was so important you should ahve keep it. You obliously didn't have the common since to hold on to it until your married.

What I Hate!

So I'm doing this blog thing but guess where I'm doing it from my phone, so right now I'm in west Oakland walking down the street on my phone. I just left the store and this lady cuts me in line. uhhhhhhh the crazy thing is she had to walk round me to cut me. She had to go all the way to the back of the store (small liquor store) to get to me how crazy is that, and don't forget rude.

Some old dude did the same thing to me yesterday and I'm like dude I'm in line. Hes like oh sorry and I'm like yeah you better be sorry. I obviously didn't say that but i thought it. Usually when someone cuts me ill say something but today i was like whatever but inside i was like hecka mad. So who else finds that kind of thing rude in my opinion you obviously have to see the person your cutting in line to cut them. Another thing i dislike is people who walk like they the s*** I'm like u look even stupider walking like that so just stop. Please just stop.

I guess when there walking they don't see the fact that there walking Crockett but they are, there walking Crockett. I wish I had the guts to tell people that but ill only tell someone that if i really really know them or I'm there friend. I just fell bad for those people because they swear they look so cute; but in reality they look dummer do if your reading this and you walk weird because you think your cute and you cut people stop doing that.

I think My biggest hate is fake people, or people who act differently based on the crowd there around. The funny part about that is, is the world is very very small. So someone you use to know will be coming back in your life eventually I mean its bound to happen. Another part of that is that when you do get caught that is so embarrassing, I find it funny becuase your kinda lookin there like uhh no I did act like that last year. I really did. And where like no u werent.
